Help Protect Marriage Equality

Take a Volunteer Vacation In Maine

In May, Maine became the fifth state in the nation to win marriage equality. But the fight is not over. Opponents want to turn back the clock by placing a referendum - modeled after California's Prop 8 - on this November's ballot.

The countdown is on. In the weeks ahead, volunteers will be needed in key places throughout the state. Join us by taking a Volunteer Vacation and if you live in Maine, we also need help finding housing for our out-of-state volunteers.

How It Works

During the month leading up to the election, the campaign will be hosting a team of highly motivated volunteers from around the country to serve as full-time volunteer campaign staff. In Maine voters will begin casting their ballots in October, so we are planning the Volunteer Vacation to run during the entire month of October. There are several shifts from which to choose. The ideal shift lasts for one week (although you may volunteer for shorter or longer shifts):

  • WEEK #1:  Sun, Oct 4 – Sat, Oct 10  (Arrive Sat, Oct 3.  Orientation Sun, Oct 4 at 1pm)
  • WEEK #2:  Sun, Oct 11 – Sat, Oct 17  (Arrive Sat, Oct 10.  Orientation Sun, Oct 11 at 1pm)
  • WEEK #3:  Sun, Oct 18 – Sat, Oct 24  (Arrive Sat, Oct 17.  Orientation Sun, Oct 18 at 1pm)
  • WEEK #4:  Sun, Oct 25 – Wed, Nov 4 (Arrive Sat, Oct 24.  Orientation Sun, Oct 25 at 1pm)

You will receive a full orientation and be assigned to a team, where you will be trained on various aspects of the campaign. You will be trained on everything you need to know to be successful.

Volunteer Vacation is designed for folks who want to volunteer, full-time, to help recruit other volunteers, campaign person-to-person with voters, and to run the Get-Out-the-Vote operation necessary to win the election. You will get an intensive, hands-on chance to hone your campaign skills.

Next Steps If You’re Interested:

If you're interested in taking a Volunteer Vacation, let us know a little about yourself and your plans. A coordinator will be in touch with you to talk more about the program, and if you are from out of state, to discuss housing and travel assistance options.
